Free mock theory test
Take a 50-question, 57-minute mock with flag-and-review controls, then use the result to focus on the topics costing you marks. The Free plan includes one repeatable 50-question paper, with every explanation. Plus adds newly generated papers from the full 315-question bank.
Make the review part of the practice.
Before you start
Allow an uninterrupted session. Keep the sign reference and notes closed so the result shows what you can recall.
During the paper
Read every option. Flag an answer when you are uncertain, even if you can make a reasonable guess. Return before submitting.
After the result
Choose one weak topic, read its explanation and practise it without the timer. Revisit correct guesses as well as mistakes.
Returning after an unsuccessful real test? Use the theory-retake revision plan to decide what to work on first.
Try three sample theory questions
These examples come from the same original question bank as the mock. Choose your answer before opening the explanation. The full timed test, review and saved results stay in the learning area.
1. You feel sleepy while driving on a motorway. Where should you stop for a rest?
- At the next service area or another safe place off the motorway
- On the hard shoulder
- In an emergency area
- On the slip road leading to the next exit
Reveal answer and explanation
At the next service area or another safe place off the motorway
Do not use a hard shoulder or emergency area for a rest. Leave at a suitable exit or use a service area; do not continue driving while sleepy.
2. What hazard does this sign warn you about?

- Loose chippings ahead
- Pedestrians in the road ahead
- A level crossing ahead
- Road works ahead
Reveal answer and explanation
Road works ahead
Expect workers, machinery or a changed road layout. Follow temporary signs and leave room for people working near the traffic.
3. You reach a crossroads with no signs or road markings. Who has automatic priority?
- Traffic on the wider road
- Traffic travelling straight ahead
- No one
- Traffic approaching from the right
Reveal answer and explanation
No one
At an unmarked junction, do not assume priority. Approach cautiously and be ready to give way to avoid a collision.

Build a repeatable margin, not one lucky score.
The official pass mark is 43 out of 50. Layna keeps the full review visible after each attempt so you can find correct guesses, repeated weak topics and the rules worth revisiting.
A score needs context.
Use the guide to understand what a good theory mock score actually proves, including timed conditions, uncertain guesses and repeated weak topics.
What this mock covers
These are original Layna questions, not licensed DVSA revision questions. The real multiple-choice test includes three questions about a short video; this mock currently uses text and sign images only. Hazard perception is a separate part of the real test and is not included in this score.

Questions about the mock
How many questions are in a car theory mock?
This mock has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 57-minute timer, matching the standard time and question count for that part of the real car test. The real test also includes video-based questions and a separate hazard-perception section, which this mock does not reproduce.
Are these official DVSA questions?
These are original Layna questions based on the Highway Code, not licensed DVSA revision questions or questions taken from live tests. Use the explanations to learn the rule rather than memorising an answer position.
Can I review my answers after the mock?
Yes. Finish the paper to see your score, question explanations and topic results. Review wrong answers and any you flagged as uncertain. The explanation remains available whether you answered correctly or not.
Can I repeat the free mock?
Yes. The Free plan includes one repeatable 50-question paper. Repeating it can help you revisit explanations, but a high score on familiar questions is not the same as understanding an unfamiliar test. Plus includes generated mocks from the full current bank.
